Lithosphere

The word 'Litho' means stone or rock. The Lithosphere is the solid outer sectin of the earth which includes the crust and the uppermost mantle. There are two types of Lithosphere:
1. Oceanic Lithosphere: It is associated with oceanic crust and exists in the ocean basins.
2. Continental Lithosphere: It is associated with continental crust. The continental crust contains a variety of rocks. They are igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks. Continental crust is lighter than ocanic crust which is made of basalt and gabbro. These rocks are derived from upper mantle.
When the lithosphere heats due to sunrays or cools down it influences air and water too. We and most other living beings live on this realm.
