Struggle with Mughals

Shivaji started fighting against Mughals.

Aurangzeb, the Mughal Emperor sent Shayista Khan against Shivaji.

Though Shayista Khan initially defeated Marathas but he could not success.

Shivaji attacked Surat in 1664 with 4000 men successfully.

Aurangzeb sent Raja Jai Singh against Shivaji.

Jai Singh started preparations to attack Shivaji from all sides. Even Raigarh was threatened.

Shivaji being helpless decided to come to terms with Jai Singh.

Shivaji concluded the Treaty of Purandhar in June 1665 wih Mughals.

As per this treaty Shivaji surrendered 23 forts and retained only 12 for him.

Shivaji agree to pay 40 lakhs of Huns to Aurangzeb.

Jai Sing persuaded Shivaji to visit the Mughal Court.

In May 1666 Shivaji and his son Sambhaji reached Agra. Later they escaped from Agra.

Fight between Shivaji and Mughals was started again inn 1670. Shivaji captured many forts.

Shivaji plundered Surat for the second time in 1674.
