Indian Councils Act 1892
The following are the main provisions of the Indian Councils Act 1892.
a) The functions of the legislative councils were enlarged.
b) Legislative Councils were authorised to discuss on annual financial statement(Budget).
c) The members of the councils were authorised to address questions to the Government on the matters of public interest.
d) The number of additional members in the council was increased i.e. not less than 10 and not more than 16 for Supreme Council and not less than 8 and not more than 20 in case of councils of Bombay and Madras.
e) 2/5 of the additional members to be non-officials.
f) The Government agreed to conduct elections under rules but the elected members could take their seats only after being nominated by the Government.
