Sir John Shore
Sir John Shore was appointed as Governor General in 1793 after Cornwallis.
He followed the policy of neutrality. As a result the prestige of the Company was lowered.
The important event during his period was the attact of Marathas on Nizam.
Marathas defeated the Nizam in the battle of Kharda in March 1795.
Nizam begged for British help but Sir John Shore refused.
Sir John Sore interfered in the affairs of Oudh.
He failed to deal with the dangerous mutiny of the European officers of Bengal. Hence he was called back in 1798.
He was succeeded by Lord Wellesley.
