Lord Linlithgow

Lord Linlithgow (1936-44):

Elections were held in 1937. The Congress got majority seats in many provinces.

There was a split in the Congress during this period. Subas Chandrabose got elected as the Congress President in 1938 and 1939. Bose left the Congress due to differences with Mahatma Gandhi and formed Forward Bloc.

Linlithgow made his famous August Offer in 1940. But the Congress rejected it.

The Cripps Mission came to India in March 1942. But it was failure.
